The Great Lakes Regional High School Poetry Contest |
|
Prize to Editor's Choice: $250 | ||
| For
five years, high school students from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and
Wisconsin have submitted their poetry for review and possible
publication. In 2004, we have added Minnesota to the region.
In 2003, more than 650 poets submitted their poems for review. We
request poetry from every public and private high school in the five
state region.
There is no fee for submitting your poetry for review. There is no purchase obligation should a student poet be selected for publication. Student writers with varying experiences are selected for publication. The poetry is, of course, wide-ranging with subjects, themes and styles as diverse as the writers themselves. All are poets with their own particular view of the world around them. Each selected poem makes a unique contribution to the anthology. Each selected poet will have a biographical information section in the anthology. Editorial decisions place limits on subject matter and language to ensure the anthology is wholesome and family-oriented even though the subjects and themes are sometimes difficult. With the permission of the student poet (parent/guardian), Western Reading Services will publish the selected poem in the anthology. Upon publication, all rights are returned to the student poet for possible publication in other venues. Poets under the age of 18 will be required to have parent/guardian signature. A poet's purchase of the anthology is not necessary for publication. As in the past, we welcome groups of individual submissions from classes as well as writing clubs. Teachers/coordinators are encouraged to identify each page as part of the group submissions. A $250 cash award will be presented to the poet whose poem is selected as the "Editor's Choice."
